WORLD NEUROSURGERY: Cortical Bone Trajectory Screw Placement Accuracy with a Patient-Matched 3-Dimensional Printed Guide in Lumbar Spinal Surgery: A Clinical Study - Dr. Marengo et. al.

In the June edition of World Neurosurgery, the paper “Cortical Bone Trajectory Screw Placement Accuracy with a Patient-Matched 3-Dimensional Printed Guide in Lumbar Spinal Surgery: A Clinical Study” was published. The authors of the paper are N. Marengo, K. Matsukawa, M. Monticelli, M. Ajello, P. Pacca, F. Cofano,F. Penner, F. Zenga, A. Ducati, D. Garbossa.

The study was conducted on 11 patients utilizing Medacta’s MySpine MC – Midline Cortical, a proven technology for accurate cortical screw placement which has been recently recognized by MedTech Breakthrough as one of this year’s most innovative medical technologies.
This publication highlights how MySpine MC can facilitate both minimally invasive surgery and strong screw fixation while decreasing the risk of nerve damage.
The publication reports that 100% of a total of 44 inserted screws are in the safe zone, showing that MySpine MC is safe for clinical application.
The authors also reported that the use of a radiograph machine is significantly reduced limiting X-ray exposure for patients and OR staff.
Good short-term clinical outcomes are shown by the fact that patients can walk unaided on the first post-operative day, being discharged from the hospital the day after.
The patients involved in the study showed significant clinical improvement without new neurological deficits or radiological pathological findings at the 6-month follow up.
